Amazon MGM Studios made a point of heading to Ballroom 20 at San Diego Comic-Con to put an official stamp on the next phase of its top action franchise with the world premiere of a teaser for Neagley. The eight-episode standalone is the first broadcast spinoff to come out of the Reacher universe and puts Maria Sten in the lead as the corporate investigator Frances Neagley, a character fans have come to know well.
The streamer has laid down an aggressive timetable: all of Neagley’s episodes will be available on Prime Video on September 16, 2026, the very day Reacher Season 4 finishes its weekly run. Where the flagship show is defined by its nomadic trek through rural America, Neagley is set in the confines of a city pressure cooker. The new trailer shows Sten’s ex-110th Special Investigations Unit officer working as a private eye in Chicago until a friend from her past dies under dubious circumstances, prompting her to put her tactical skills and cool head to work on a conspiracy.
Showrunner Nick Santora is back at the helm with co-showrunner Nicholas Wootton of Scorpion, and they have assembled a cast to complement Sten that features Greyston Holt, Adeline Rudolph, Jasper Jones, Matthew Del Negro and Damon Herriman. Alan Ritchson makes a guest appearance as Jack Reacher.
But the IP push does not stop with television. Lee Child was on hand with Sten to present Zero Margin, the inaugural Neagley novel from the pen of Child and Yasmin Angoe, due in March 2027. It is a way to put the character on both a literary and visual track. Ritchson also used the panel to put to rest any speculation about the future of his series, confirming a greenlight for a fifth season of Reacher to be adapted from Make Me, the 2015 bestseller.
There is a certain sophistication to how Amazon is handling the rollout of Neagley. By making the whole season available the moment the main event is over, Prime Video has built an instant pipeline for viewers instead of leaving them to wait between seasons. It is a connected ecosystem built around proven characters. One has to say that giving Sten’s formidable Neagley her own story line, with a novel to boot, is a masterclass in broadening an action franchise without watering it down. With executive producers like Don Granger, Sam Hill and Adam Higgs on board with Child and the showrunners, Neagley is a solid autumn tentpole for the streamer as it reaches its 240 markets this fall and cements a multi-series universe.
