Tom Holland is taking on one of the biggest roles of his career outside of the Spider-Man franchise in Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey. Matt Damon plays the legendary Greek king, and Holland plays Telemachus, son of Odysseus. With the film featuring a large ensemble cast and a reported production budget of around $250 million, it’s no wonder there are plenty of questions about what its stars were paid.

Industry salary reports estimate Holland made around $10 million for his role as Telemachus. He is said to be the second highest-paid actor in the movie after Damon, who is said to have received around $15 million for his role as Odysseus. Holland’s $10 million salary for the ensemble film is another sign of his escalating value in Hollywood, where he’s become one of the most recognizable young stars thanks to the Spider-Man films.

Why Holland’s $10 Million Paycheck Is Important

Holland is used to getting paid significant money as Peter Parker, but The Odyssey is a different animal. Now he’s up there with established stars like Damon, Charlize Theron, and Anne Hathaway. Instead of another superhero film, he’s currently working on a major historical epic with Nolan. Holland’s reported $10 million upfront payment helps cement his status as a marquee player in the film’s cast and shows studios view him as more than just the face of Marvel’s Spider-Man.

It’s possible, too, that his total take is higher than the $10 million that has been reported. Hollywood deals on large budgets sometimes include box-office incentives and bonuses if a film outperforms expectations. Holland could be in line for more money depending on the terms of his contract if The Odyssey continues to do the billion-dollar box office business it’s reported to be doing.

The Nolan Effect and Hollywood Paydays

Working with Nolan has often included financial calculations for major stars. Awards, attention, prestige, and the worldwide exposure his films receive have sometimes led actors to take lower upfront salaries. The concept is straightforward: charge a competitive upfront fee and then earn more from bonuses or backend participation if the movie is a major success.

It was widely discussed among the Oppenheimer production team that a number of high-profile actors reportedly took relatively small upfront salaries to work with Nolan. It is said that Universal spent a lot of money to get a large cast together for what was an unusually demanding production, which seems to have been the case as well with The Odyssey. From the start, it was a major financial commitment, as the movie required a massive shoot in a lot of locations and was meant to be a major IMAX event.

Could Tom Holland Pocket More Than $10 Million?

Holland’s reported $10 million salary should be viewed as a base salary and not his final paycheck. Bonuses, performance incentives, and profit participation can make Hollywood contracts complicated. If The Odyssey continues to perform as it has, the extra terms could have a big effect on Holland’s final earnings.

The success of the film also solidifies Holland’s standing for future projects. Holland’s inclusion in a billion-dollar epic as one of the central young stars alongside established names gives him significant leverage outside the Marvel universe, and a successful Nolan film can carry a lot of weight in Hollywood.

How Tom Holland Set Box Office Milestones in a Single Year

This is particularly interesting as it is a busy year for Holland. He’s the center of two different types of major theatrical releases: The Odyssey and Spider-Man: Brand New Day. One is the latest in one of the world’s biggest superhero franchises, and the other is Christopher Nolan’s ambitious new take on Homer’s epic poem.

This combination plays a huge part in Holland’s career trajectory. He is no longer seen as just the young actor who plays Spider-Man. He’s established himself as a bankable celebrity who can easily transition from filmmaker-driven projects to giant franchise films without losing his audience. Future projects may further enhance Holland’s earning power, as suggested by his reported $10 million salary for The Odyssey—a sign of his rising star power.
