Spider-Man: Brand New Day is not only doing well at the box office, but it’s also making history. Sony Pictures confirmed the latest Spider-Man movie grossed more than $500 million domestically in its first seven days of release, making it the fastest film to hit the milestone in North America.
The previous record was held by Avengers: Endgame, which reached $500 million on its eighth day in theaters after its massive 2019 debut. By comparison, Endgame took in about $473 million during its first full week before finishing up with $858 million domestically. And Brand New Day has been able to build on that momentum, adding another remarkable achievement to its already remarkable first week.
The records just keep on coming
This is just the latest in a series of milestones for the Tom Holland-led sequel. The film’s domestic opening weekend was a record-setting $360 million, beating out the previous record of $357.1 million set by Avengers: Endgame. And it set new records for Thursday previews, opening day and Monday and Tuesday grosses, indicating that people continued to come out well beyond the opening weekend.
It has been a success globally outside of North America as well. Brand New Day crossed the $1 billion mark within six days of release globally to become the second fastest film to reach that milestone (behind Endgame). That is an incredible pace, especially when you consider that the film doesn’t have the same level of multiverse spectacle that was integral to the success of Spider-Man: No Way Home. Instead, it has played to the crowd by focusing on Peter Parker’s personal journey as he tries to get his life back together after the last movie.

What’s the Potential Final Box Office?
Of course, after such a strong opening weekend, fans will be wondering how the film will do. It’s too early to make any sweeping statements, but Brand New Day is in a good place. If the film can maintain its current level of stability over the next few weeks, a domestic run in the $850 million-to-$950 million range is doable. The film could earn between $2.2 billion and $2.5 billion globally, which would make it one of the highest-grossing films of all time.
But the real test will come in the next few weeks. Every blockbuster’s attendance drops after its initial release, and new releases will begin to compete for premium screens. Brand New Day is a rarity, but it already has the kind of momentum few films ever have. Spider-Man’s broad overseas appeal, positive word of mouth and repeat viewings should help the film continue to perform well throughout its run.
A Promising Future for Marvel
Brand New Day has broken these records in record time, and as much as this is proof of the Spider-Man brand itself, it’s also indicative of the audience’s enthusiasm. A lot of big franchise films over the last few years have had a huge opening weekend and then drop off considerably in their second weekend. That’s not the case here. The film has made $500 million domestically in only seven days, which means that it is not only the newest Marvel movie that people are going to see, but it is being recommended by friends and people are coming back to see it again.
It’s also a further reminder of the connection that audiences have made with Tom Holland’s version of Peter Parker. There were a lot of different paths Marvel could have taken after No Way Home. But Brand New Day decided to tell a more self-contained, character-driven story about Peter’s rebirth after losing everyone he knew. Clearly, moviegoers liked the decision. If the film can gather momentum over the next few weeks, it could be one of the biggest theatrical hits of the decade, and not just a box-office success.
